Rhap Salazar speaks up about tweets on lip-synching celebrities
Rhap explains his frustration with people who appreciate lip-synching artists more than artists who sing with their own voices

MANILA, Philippines – Singer Rhap Salazar spoke about his controversial tweets about lip-synching artists on Aquino & Abunda Tonight on Friday, August 21.

During his interview with the show’s host Boy Abunda, Rhap said he was frustrated by artists who lip-synch because they don’t work as hard as artists who sing with their own voices.

Nandoon po yung frustration ko kasi I’m doing my best every single day for the past years in the business as a singer, so yung naglalabas po ako ng effort sa pagkanta para i-share yung talent ko sa ibang tao, tapos bigla akong may makikita na artists na parang effortless lang sila mag-perform, lip-synching their songs,” he said.

(That’s where my frustration lies because I’m doing my best every single day for the past years in the business as a singer, so I put out all effort to sing, to share my talent with others, and suddenly I see artists who perform effortlessly, lip-synching their songs.)

Rhap said that audiences who prefer lip-synching artists are unfair to him as a singer: “I find it a litle unfair for me. Siguro po yung mga [unfair ay yung mga] mas nakaka-appreciate ng act na iba kaysa doon sa totoong act na singing,” he said.

(I guess those who are unfair are those who can appreciate other acts rather than the actual act of singing.)

He also clarified that he wasn’t pointing fingers at any particular artist, and that his tweets were directed at the act of lip-synching. “Kung sino po siguro yung natamaan, actually wala po akong pinapatamaan, I’m just speaking for myself,” Rhap said.

(If anyone felt they were being called out, actually I wasn’t calling anyone out, I’m just speaking for myself.)

Rhap tweeted after an opening number on ABS-CBN’s ASAP 20, which led people to believe he was referring to the lip-synching artists on the show.

The singer added that he respects and understands the opnions and reactions of everyone who responded to his tweets. “I’m very happy na nasabi ko po lahat ng gusto kong sabihin, na-express ko yung gusto kong i-express at sa mga [nag-react] ganun din po ‘yung sa side nila ‘yung naintindihan ko yun po.”

(I’m very happy that I was able to say all that I wanted to say, I was able to express what I wanted to express, and for those who reacted, I understand their side as well.)

Last July 4, Rhap tweeted that he “hates seeing lip-synching artists on TV,” especially the ones who have albums of their own.

Many celebrities eacted to Rhap’s tweets since they were posted, including Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, and Vice Ganda. – Rappler.com
