MANILA, Philippines – Matteo Guidicelli shared with the press on October 21 that his girlfriend, singer Sarah Geronimo, gave him advice about his duet with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez for his debut album.

Sabi lang niya ibigay mo ‘yung puso mo (She just said, give your heart),” Matteo said about Sarah’s advice. “Aralin mo talaga yung kanta nang todo-todo, at ibigay ang puso sa kanta, at ipractice mo talaga para pag andoon ka na sa studio, talagang handang-handa ka na hindi na half-baked kumbaga.”

(Really study the song, and give your heart to the song, and really practice it, so that when you’re at the studio, you’re ready, and it’s not half-baked.)

Matteo’s duet with Regine, which will be in his upcoming self-titled album, is the song “Sa Kanya” by Ogie Alcasid.

Rivalry with Sarah?

After the October 21 press conference for his concert “MG1,” reporters asked Matteo if he there is any professional rivarly between him and Sarah because they insist on not working together on projects.

“No, absolutely nothing,” answered Matteo. “I’m very proud of whatever she does and I guess she is the same.” He added that in the industry, it’s easy for things to get confusing, so they agreed that they would each do his or her thing. “When we see each other, it’s nothing to do with work, it’s just real life.” (READ: Matteo Guidicelli on seeing girlfriend Sarah G at Ironman)

Keeping work separate

When reporters asked if he and Sarah keep work and their relationship separate to avoid rumors that Matteo is just using Sarah to further his career, Matteo good naturedly replied that he just laughs off what online bashers say about him and his relationship.

“I guess I take it as a creative criticism, you know, these people inspire me to be better… So no, it’s just our choice din, doon sa (too, there from the) start na (that) we want to keep things different, and keep things separate,” said Matteo.

In spite of the persistent questions people ask about him, Sarah and their decision to not work together, Matteo said that he understands that’s just the way real life is. “I hope someday that people will understand and keep us separate. I hope, one day, but it’s hard eh, because that’s reality we can’t turn around from reality, so just live with it and just do what we can, just do our best ‘di ba (right)?”  (WATCH: Why Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo don’t work together on-screen)

Plans for marriage

After the conference, Matteo said that he wants to focus on his career right now and was vague about plans for marriage in the near future.

“My main focus talaga is the things I’m doing now eh, the concert, the music and siyempre (of course) she’s my inspiration to doing this, she’s the one who fuels my heart… right now, the songs, the music, everything, she’s the inspiration,” he said of his girlfriend.

In 2014, Sarah said that she wanted to be married in her early 30s. Sarah is currently 27, while Matteo is 25, and Sarah confirmed that they were dating in June 2014. “We don’t know, you know, we don’t know what’s next in life, we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, we just have to live day by day and give everyday our best shot and see where it’s gonna take us,” said Matteo when this was brought up.
