‘Hugo’ leads Oscars race

MANILA, Philippines – With 11 nominations, the family-oriented film, “Hugo” became a leading contender in the 84th Academy Awards, honoring the best in Hollywood.

The nominees were announced on Tuesday, Jan 24, 2012, in a short ceremony at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Among the nominations the Martin Scorsese film got were for Best Picture and Best Director.

“The Artist” and “The Descendants” also have multiple categories, with 10 and 5, respectively.

Here is a list of the nominees for the major categories. The winners will be announced tomorrow, Sunday, February 26.
