The actor pays Rodrigo Duterte a visit to say he would support the Davao City mayor if he runs for president

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Actor Robin Padilla has offered to turn the life story of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte into a movie, at the same time assuring him he would support the local chief executive’s possible presidential bid in 2016.

Padilla, along with singers Jimmy Bondoc and Paolo Santos, paid Duterte a visit Tuesday night, October 27.

The mayor, however, told them his standard answer to those pushing him to seek the highest national post: “I submit to God, Diyos na ang bahala (it’s up to God),” according to Duterte’s executive assistant Christopher Lawrence Go.

Sabi rin ni Robin, gawin n’yang  pelikula ang buhay ni Mayor. Wala pang sagot si Mayor about sa movie offer ni Robin,” Go told Rappler.

(Robin said, maybe he could do a movie about the life of the Mayor. Mayor doesn’t have an answer about Robin’s movie offer.)

Bondoc and Santos were among the 14 singers and composers who produced “Takbo,” the song and video meant to convince Duterte to seek the presidency.

Duterte announced on October 16, the last day of filing of certificates on candidacy (COC), that he would definitely not run for president. However, just before the poll body’s central office closed, his party mate in the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban, Martin Diño, filed for president.

It was seen as a move to give Duterte room to change his mind and substitute for him until December 10, the last day the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will allow changes in party’s candidates.

Duterte’s grownup kids have shaven their heads to symbolize their support for their father’s political decisions for 2016, including possibly substituting the PDP-Laban standard-bearer.

Rappler learned, however, that the Comelec has initiated a case to declare Diño a nuisance candidate, aside from having filed using the wrong Comelec form.

Diño withdrew his Certificate of Candidacy for president at Comelec Thursday afternoon, October 29. –
