WATCH: Adele says she ‘cried pretty much all day’ after 2016 Grammys mic glitch

MANILA, Philippines – Adele’s performance of “All I Ask” at the 2016 Grammy Awards was stirring and breathtaking, but there was a technical slip-up. Adele spoke on The Ellen DeGeneres Show during the episode on February 18, Thursday, to talk about the experience and how she got over it afterwards.

The best-selling British singer said that while her rehearsal went well, the worst thing happened during the performance itself when the mic fell on the piano strings. The piano started to emit a sound like guitar strumming. (HIGHLIGHTS: Hits and misses of the 2016 Grammy Awards)

“I knew where the mic was, and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze,” she told Ellen, adding, “I actually felt that it went well. In the room, they actually sorted the problem. 

“I’m always a bit pitchy anyway,” she joked, chalking this up to being emotional. “It’s emotion. When I’m flat and I’m sharp, I’m just emotional.”

“I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, ‘We still love you! Don’t worry,’ and I was like, ‘I didn’t ask you if you still love me, but thanks! I was embarrassed.”

“I cried pretty much all day yesterday,” Adele said, adding, “In fairness, I would’ve cried if it went really well, as well. If it had been like a stand out performance, I would have cried as well. I always cry.”

“I kept spontaneously bursting into tears yesterday, but it was alright”

She also earlier joked during the interview: “Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms.” 

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences president Neil Portnow previously owned up to the glitch himself. “It was fixed in a matter of seconds, but we’re never happy when something like that happens,” he said. (READ: Adele takes comfort in fast food after Grammys performance glitch)

“Something like that can easily be distracting or offputting, or certainly unexpected. To Adele’s credit, she killed it, she did a fantastic job, the pro that she is.” 

While Adele broke records with her latest album 25, she was not qualified to contend for the Grammy Awards this year because she missed the cutoff. She has won 10 Grammy Awards so far. – Rappler.com
