Dennis Trillo on relationship with Jennylyn Mercado

MANILA, Philippines – Dennis Trillo picked up the Movie Actor of the Year award at the 2016 Star Awards for Movies Sunday, March 6, for his work in Felix Manalo. In his acceptance speech, Dennis thanked actress Jennylyn Mercado and expressed regret that she was not able to make the event. He and Jennylyn, former exes, are rumored to be rekindling their relationship. 

“Sa pamilya ko, magulang, kapatid, mga minamahal sa buhay, sa mga inspirasyon – thank you sa pagmamahal, pag-aalaga. Kay Jennylyn, thank you very much. […] Nalulungkot ako na wala siya dito, pero congratulations din sa iyo. Thank you sa lahat ng mga nandito, lumalabas at gumagastos para manood ng sine,” he said. 

(To my family, parents, siblings, loved ones, to those who inspired me, thank you for the love and for caring. To Jennylyn, thank you very much…I’m sad she isn’t here, but congratulations, too. Thank you to everyone here, to those who go out and spend money to watch movies.) 

In an interview with the press before the awards ceremony, Dennis shared that Jennylyn is doing well after she lost her voice and had to visit the hospital. Jennylyn is working on a new film with John Lloyd Cruz, titled Just The 3 Of Us.

“Okay na sya. Nakauwi na, nakapagpahinga,” he said. (She’s okay. She’s home and resting.)

When asked about their relationship, Dennis said: “Wala, ako nandito pa rin ako sa sitwasyon na hindi nagsasabi ng status kasi pareho kaming masaya lang, nag-eenjoy. Tulad ng sinabi ko dati, hindi namin binibigyan ng status.”

(Nothing. I’m still in the situation where we’re not disclosing our status because we’re both enjoying our time together. As I’ve said before, we’re not confirming any status.)

“Ayaw namin magbigay ng kung anu-ano. Bahala na sila kung anong isipin nila, basta masaya lang kami. ‘Yun naman ang importante,” he said.

(We don’t want to give any meaning to it. It’s up to them to think what they want to think as long as we’re okay. That’s all that is important.)

In the March 2016 issue of Yes! magazine, Jennylyn previously indicated “yes” when asked if she and Dennis were “exclusively dating.”

“Yeah. Ganun. Pareho kami,” Dennis said. (Yeah, we’re like that.)

“Maiksi lang ang buhay eh. Dapat laging happy….Dapat mas na-appreciate natin bawa’t araw, appreciate natin bawa’t tao at lahat ng mga biyayang natatanggap natin.”

(Life is short. We should just be happy… We must appreciate each day we have, appreciate every person and the blessings given to us.)

After being together for a year, the Kapuso couple broke up in 2011. Dennis shared that what happened in their past, taught them a thing or two about being relationship.

“Pareho na kaming matanda na. Mature na kami pareho. ‘Yun talaga ang importante. Mature ka na marami ka ng nare-realize. Marami kang dapat icorrect sa ugali mo, sa mga nangyayari sa buhay mo,” Dennis said.

(We’re both grown-ups. We’re both already mature. That’s what’s important. We’re mature, that we’ve realized so many things. There is so much to correct in your attitude, when it comes to the things that have happened to you.)

He also admitted that love is indeed sweeter the second time around.

“Totoo yun! Oo may kakilala ako ganun yung nangyari sa kanila,” he joked. (That’s true. Yes, I know someone who experienced that.)

“At mas kilala na namin ang isa’t isa. Alam na namin, kaya mas nakakatulong siguro yun.”
