Ranald Mackechnie, the photographer commissioned to take the portrait, described Prince George to The Telegraph: “He was absolutely charming, as you can see from the picture.”

He added, “You only have a short window of opportunity with small children, but Prince George was on good form and everyone seemed to enjoy seeing him enjoy the day.”

“He was fascinated by my lights and all the kit, and he was quite happy standing on the blocks. I took maybe 80 or 100 shots, but when I saw this one I knew straight away that was it.”

“When I found out what the project was I could scarcely believe my ears,” Mackechnie also told The Mirror“It’s an honor and it’s great to get the opportunity to photograph the four generations of the family. We spent a lot of time thinking about how we needed to approach it.”

According to The Telegraphthe Royal Mail is also printing 6 other postage stamps to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday. The set features pictures of the Queen in her younger years and in her various roles as the British monarch. The stamps will be available in Britain’s post offices starting on April 21, Thursday.
