Kim Kardashian defends Kanye: Taylor Swift approved ‘Famous’ line

MANILA, Philippines – Kim Kardashian has spoken up about her husband Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s feud, saying that Taylor knew all about the controversial line in “Famous” before the song’s release.

In GQ‘s new cover story, Kim defended Kanye’s assertion that he called up Taylor to get her approval for the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might have sex / Why? I made that b-tch famous.”

“She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much sh-t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved,” Kim told the magazine.

According to Kim, Taylor and Kanye’s phone call was even recorded on video, as the rapper likes to film whenever he creates an album – for “posterity” and possible future documentaries.

Kim continued, “[Taylor] totally gave the okay,” adding that many industry members were also in the room during the phone call and that Kanye has called even her a b-tch in his songs too, but that has never bothered her.

“I don’t know why [Taylor] just, you know, flipped all of a sudden… It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, ‘The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again,” said Kim.

Observers believe that Taylor’s 2016 Grammys acceptance speech was a hit at Kanye. She said: “There are gonna be people who try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” (READ: Here’s what Kanye West had to say about Taylor Swift after the Grammys)

On “playing the victim again,” Kim was talking about the incident that started it all: At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video to say, “Imma let you finish but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”

Kim also told GQ that Taylor’s attorneys sent Kanye’s team a letter, asking them not to release the video of the phone call where she approved the lyric.

Kim speculated that someone on Kanye’s team might have told someone from Taylor’s about the footage, which is how Taylor knew about it.

“And then they sent an attorney’s letter like, ‘Don’t you dare do anything with that footage,’ and asking us to destroy it,” recounted Kim.

Kanye’s team later confirmed to GQ that there was footage of the phone call and that Taylor’s lawyers had contacted them.

Taylor’s representative also responded to GQ about the matter in a statement:

“Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West,” said the spokesperson.

“However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect. Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since. Taylor has never denied that conversation took place.”

It continued: “It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that b-tch’ in referencing her.”

“A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated.”

“Kim Kardashian’s claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone,” concluded the statement. – Rappler.com
