Jessy Mendiola is FHM’s ‘Sexiest Woman’ 2016

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The nation’s duly elected leaders, Rodrigo Duterte and Leni Robredo took their oath of office on June 30. At the same time that the Philippines now has a new President and new Vice President, actress Jessy Mendiola is now the ‘new sexiest woman in the land,’ according to FHM Philippines’ 100 Sexiest List.

FHM conducted its public poll from April 1 to June 15.

Jessy, 23, has starred in many popular television shows such as ABS-CBN’s Maria Mercedes. Last year, she only landed in 23rd place.

After landing on top of FHM’s list, Jessy wrote on Instagram, “Surreal. Thank you.”

In a video posted on ABS-CBN News, people from the magazine conveyed the news to her, and upon learning about winning the title, she was visibly shocked.

“I’m overwhelmed. It’s a nice venue to send the message that everyone is sexy and if I can win this, if I’m hailed as the sexiest of FHM, lahat tayo puwedeng maging ganun,” she said in the video.

“What’s important is loving yourself, being healthy, and being the better version of yourself. So I guess kaya itong nangyari kasi I am on that journey, nasa journey ako of being better for myself.”

(This is what happened because I am on that journey – that journey of being better for myself.)

In her FHM profile, the magazine hailed the actress for proving “that being sexy is beyond physical.” 

The magazine quoted one of the notes she wrote on Instagram:

“My body may not be perfect but that will not stop me from being confident with myself,” she wrote. “We all come in different sizes and shapes but that shouldn’t stop us from being happy with our own bodies.”

“Whether you are curvy, malaman, skinny, too skinny, on the plus size, or even plus plus size, you have all the right to be confident with yourself because that is who and what you are.” 

“If you don’t love yourself enough, who else will?”

My body may not be perfect but that will not stop me from being confident with myself. I’ve had my fair share of body shaming comments. So I know how it feels like to be called “FAT” or “TUMABA”. Well, just to inform some of you “PERFECT” people. We all come in different sizes and shapes but that shouldn’t stop us from being happy with our own bodies. There are times that you will gain weight and there are times that you will lose it. It’s normal. It just shows that you are a human being. So whether you are curvy, malaman, skinny, too skinny, on the plus size or even on the plus plus size,  you have ALL the right to be confident with yourself because that is who and what YOU are.
