Stars react, offer prayers for Nice Bastille Day attack

MANILA, Philippines – After the Bastille Day attack in Nice, France, many took to social media to express their grief and offer prayers for those who lost their lives.

Among those speaking out were stars, musicians, and members of the fashion industry.

On Friday, July 15, a truck slammed into a crowd in Nice, killing at least 84 people. The attack, which President Francois Hollande called an act of terrorism, happened on Bastille Day, a French national celebration.

Some musicians were in France at the time of the attack, including Rihanna, who was set to have a concert at the Allianz Stadium in Nice on July 15.

The singer’s reps have since said that she is safe and she posted a message on Instagram, saying that her concert is canceled.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” she added.



The electronic music duo Disclosure were in Nice on the morning of the attack and sent out a message on Twitter, saying, “Thoughts with everyone affected by the horrific scenes in Nice, France.”


 

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, a French singer and wife of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, called for everyone to stand together following the attack, captioning a photo on Instagram: “Solidarité (Solidarity).”

French fashion designer and creative director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, said he had “no words, no hashtags, only tears” for the Nice attack.

Actress, activist, and former fashion model Mia Farrow retweeted news about Nice and called for people in the area to donate blood to hospitals if it was needed.





Former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong recalled the time he spent at Nice, training.
