Like wine, the JoBros have only gotten finer with time — and the eldest is still only 23

MANILA, Philippines – The Jonas Brothers are in Manila for their first ever show in the Philippines and fans are understandably ecstatic.

Kevin, Joe and Nick have gone a long way since they got their start as a fresh-faced teen boy band.

Now, more confident and a bit more mature, the brothers are heading back on the road after a short hiatus that saw each of them pursuing individual projects.

Here are some facts RAPPLER gathered about the Jonas Brothers after they met the press on October 18 at the Makati Shangri-La:

1. This is one of their first shows since getting back together from a long break.

It has been a while since all 3 brothers worked together.

Besides the occasional live show, their last project together was Camp Rock 2, the sequel to their show on the Disney channel, that aired in 2010.

“We kept busy with our own things,” said Nick Jonas, who starred in a Broadway revival of “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Joe Jonas released a solo album, while eldest brother Kevin starred in a reality TV show called “Married to Jonas” with his wife, Danielle.

“We’re not really apart though,” Kevin explained. “I mean, we’re brothers, so we’re always seeing each other and hanging out. It was an opportunity for all of us to live life and grow [as individuals].”

2. They still get nervous before shows.

While the time off from the band allowed the brothers to pursue their individual interests, they admit that they miss performing together and are excited for the show tonight.

“We needed to live a little bit of life so we could write about it and talk about it,” said Kevin. “And I definitely think it’s true and goes for all of us.”

“It’s pretty nerve-racking,” Nick admitted. “It’s been so long.” (sic)

3. Kevin said starring in a reality show with his wife is good for their marriage.

“Married To Jonas” follows the life of the young couple as well as documenting the brothers’ re-entry into the limelight as a band.

“I’m having a good time with it,” said Kevin. “It’s definitely a positive [thing]. Our relationship has become stronger.”

4. They think boy bands of the moment are “amazing.”

When asked about the resurgence of boy bands like One Direction and The Wanted, the brothers were all-praises.

“It’s kind of amazing how things always come in cycles, and luckily we’ve been able to be a band that’s been making our own music and creating our own destiny that we’re excited about. (sic)

“But those guys [other boy bands] are amazing, they’re making great music and it’s definitely fun to see the world accepting that kind of style again,” said Kevin.

5. Social media has been a boon to their careers.

Nick said they’re grateful to all their fans on social media.

“When we were starting out, MySpace was still pretty big, and even now on Twitter and Facebook and all the rest, we can definitely appreciate all our nice fans.

“So yeah, social media is definitely important.”

6. Nick loves Lea Salonga.

“She’s a legend at this point,” Nick said. The two met during the 25th anniversary presentation of Cameron Macintosh’s musical Les Miserables.

“I love her. She’s so talented. And she told me many things about Filipinos and the Philippines.”

7. They have a soft spot for the Philippines.

Joe Jonas was, of course, a recent visitor to the country upon the invitation of local clothing brand Bench.

“He told us a lot about his experiences here, and that made us excited to come here,” Kevin said.

“The jeepneys,” Joe added. “What’s that thing with all the ice cream flavors?”

“Halo-halo,” someone in the audience shouted.

“Yeah that one, I definitely have to have one of those,” he added.

8. The new album will offer something different.

The brothers are at work recording their 5th studio album.

While they say that they are still inspired by their main influences in music like Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Prince and the Beatles, they’re ready to expand and experiment with newer sounds and a newer perspective.

“I think musically we’ve been inspired by a lot of things recently that played a big part into it,” Nick said. “It’s the kind of process where you have to dive into things that are personal and mean a lot to you, but I think that’s so important when you’re creating music as an artist.

“We control our destiny now, how we write, record and release music. So we’re in a great position to be able to give as much music to our fans.”

9. They have nothing but good words to say about Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.

Fellow Disney star Anna Maria Perez de Tagle will open the show for the brothers tonight and they’re all praises for the half-Filipino star.

“We’ve worked with her before and we think she’s amazing,” Nick said. “She has a fantastic voice and she’s a real talent.”

10. The brothers promise an extra special show tonight.

The Jonas Brothers chose the Philippines as their first show overseas since their break, so that says something.

“We’re going to play some songs that we haven’t really been playing since our early days,” Kevin said.

“We’ll also put a new twist on some of the old favorites and of course, play some new songs as well. So it’s going to be really fun.” – Rappler.com
