PH film ‘Die Beautiful’ to compete in Tokyo Film Festival

MANILA, Philippines – The movie Die Beautiful, starring Paolo Ballesteros, will compete in the upcoming Tokyo Film Festival scheduled to run October 25 to November 3.

Die Beautiful director June Robles Lana confirmed the news on his social media account, adding that another film, I America will be screened as part of the Asian Future section.

Kinikilig kami sa tuwa! Our newly finished film “Die Beautiful” has been selected in the Main Competition of the Tokyo International Film Festival. Congratulations also to the other Filipino filmmakers who were selected, especially [Ivan Payawal ] for his film I America screening at the Asian Future section. So proud of you, Ivan!” the director said.

 

Aside from Die Beautiful and I America, Lav Diaz’s film Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis will also be screened at the festival. 

According to the movie’s synopsis published on the Tokyo Film Festival website, Die Beautiful is the story of Trisha, a transgender woman who competes in beauty contests. As part of her request before her death, Trisha’s wish was to remain beautiful. 

 

The tagline of the movie goes “A Glamorous Life Deserves a Fabulous Death.”

Paolo, also well known for his fantastic makeup transformations, recently returned to Eat Bulaga, after his absence from the show early this year. – Rappler.com
