HBO series focuses on Freddie Roach's life
MANILA, Philippines - This time, the focus is on trainer Freddie Roach,
Roach -- who is responsible for fueling world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao to superstardom under his tutelage -- is the focus of his own unscripted show.
The new HBO series, "On Freddie Roach," takes a personal look at the life of Roach who owns and runs the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, and who is suffering from Parkinson's disease.
Roach was born in Dedham, Massachusetts and was a professional boxer up until 1987, with a record of 41 wins and 12 losses. After he retired, he became the apprentice of his Hall of Fame trainer Eddie Futch.
The 51-year-old bachelor found his own success as a trainer, having coached more than 20 world champions.
Roach has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in December. He has been recognized five times as Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
HBO will air the first of the six-episode season in Manila on Monday, October 29 at 11pm. - Rappler.com
