If he directed 'Homeland,' would it have made a difference?

MANILA, Philippines – People everywhere are raving about “Argo” and about how Ben Affleck is a “better director than actor.”

Do you agree? Anyway…

The Hollywood Reporter reports that at the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards last October 29 at the Beverly Hilton, Affleck — upon receiving the Career Achievement Award — spoke about how he agreed to direct the “Homeland” pilot episode.

He had to pass on the project, though, based on a “parental” agreement with wife, actress Jennifer Garner.

Affleck shared how he and Garner have a deal where they “make family compromises on accepting work.”

Simply put: Garner was filming; he had to be in North Carolina to direct “Homeland.”

But it was his turn to be with their kids Violet (6), Seraphina (3) and Samuel (8 months).

“I was sure nothing would happen with the show,” he admitted.

He was wrong: “Homeland” starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis turned out to be a certified hit, winning 3 Emmys last September 24: Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lewis) and Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Danes).

Affleck’s admission drew laughs from the crowd.

“Now I hate the f—-g show. I’ve never seen it. I’m going to attach myself to 14 pilots this year,” he added.
