Why Piolo Pascual is still hot
MANILA, Philippines - Piolo Pascual knows what it's like to pay the painful price of being a celebrity.
In 2011, following his very public break-up with KC Concepcion, Piolo knows that he got labeled in every possible way he could.
But the actor kept mum and even apologized to their disappointed fans for the break-up.
In the press conference for his new film "24/7 In Love" at lunchtime on November 15, Piolo's co-stars Maja Salvador and comedienne Pokwang dished about what makes their "Papa P" forever "hot and sexy."
1. He is a man of faith
In 2005, this writer was part of the audience of a Christian dance concert spearheaded by the UP Streetdance Club in the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
Piolo appeared in the concert, surprising everyone. He talked about the feeling of emptiness he would still get even after receiving awards; it was only through his work with Victory Christian Fellowship (VCF) that he said he "found fulfillment."
“I was in my mid-20s and I was getting awards left and right for Dekada ’70. I realized na that it was the peak of my career. I was receiving awards and recognition but I still felt that there was something missing,” he said.
2. He is a true gentleman
Pokwang became emotional when asked to share what she likes most about Piolo and working with him.
“Hindi lang sa pisikal na pagkatao, yung ugali niya, kung paano kami tinatrato,” she said in a cracked voice. “Sobrang suporta niya sa amin, very gentleman siya (He doesn't just look good. His attitude and the way he treats us... He encourages us fully. He's a real gentleman.)."
3. He’s down-to-earth
"24/7 In Love" director Mae Cruz — who has worked with Piolo for various TV projects like "Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako” on ABS-CBN — attests that he is a down-to-earth guy, a "rare quality in superstars."
“I’ve known him for a while and until now, walang kakupas-kupas na kabutihan sa mga katrabaho niya (His goodness towards other people hasn't changed),” she said.
4. People never tire of him
“Everytime na nakikita ko si Papa P, lagi akong may nakikitang bago. Hindi siya nakakasawa (Everytime I see Papa P, there's always something new. I never get tired of him),” actress Maja Salvador said.
“Iba siyang magtrato ng babae, sobrang nakaka-babae (The way he treats women is really different. You really feel like a woman),” she added.
