MANILA, Philippines – Actors Allen Dizon and Angelie Sanoy were given the Special Jury Award in the international competition of the 33rd Warsaw Film Festival for their performance in Bomba (The Bomb).
In Bomba, Dizon plays Pipo, a deaf-mute man in his forties, struggling to make ends meet in a city ravaged by extrajudicial killings. Sanoy plays his 16-year-old lover Cyril.
The film, directed by Ralston Gonzales Jover, made the news when the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board initially gave it an X rating. The rating was later changed to R-13.
The international competition also saw France’s Joan Chemla taking home the Best Director award for If You Saw His Heart, and China’s To Kill A Watermelon by Zehao Gao winning the Warsaw Grand Prix. Hanna Slak’s The Miner was named Special Mention.
