A new K-drama from the makers of ‘Descendants of the Sun’ is coming to Netflix
'Mr Sunshine' is a new collaboration from Kim Eun-sook and Lee Eung-bok

SEOUL, Korea – K-drama fans now have more reason to Netflix and chill (we mean literally): the upcoming Korean drama Mr. Sunshine will soon be available on the streaming service for viewers around the world.

The 24-episode series comes from writer Kim Eun-sook, and director Lee Eung-bok, the same people behind the hit shows Descendants of the Sun and Goblin.

The series is produced by Hwa&Dam Pictures, and Studio Dragon, who also teamed up to produce Goblin and Bravo My Life

Mr Sunshine is set in the Shinmiyangyo, or the US expedition to Korea in the late 19th century. It tells the story Eugene Choi, a Korean boy from a family of house servants who travels to the United States and later returns as a US marine officer. Eugene then gets caught in a romance with the daughter of an aristocrat. At the same time, he learns of plans to colonize his homeland.

Lee Byung-hun, who was Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe series and Han Cho Bai in Red 2, takes on the role of Eugene. Kim Tae-ri, who appeared in The Handmaiden, will play the aristocrat’s daughter, Go Ae-sin.

Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Min-jung, and Byun Yo-han will also be playing key roles.

Mr. Sunshine will premiere exclusively on Netflix for the US and most Asian territories on July 7, coinciding with its Korean broadcast.

It will then premiere in Japan on July 8, and the rest of the world on July 19. – Rappler.com
