LISTEN: Red Velvet debuts English version of ‘Bad Boy’
The girls sing the English version during K-Con in the US

MANILA, Philippines – They’ve already made history as part of a group of South Korean artists who performed during a rare inter-Korean summit, but will top girl group Red Velvet make an impact on American airwaves?

The 5-member group – Yeri, Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy – debuted the English lyrics for one of their latest singles, “Bad Boy,” during K-Con at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on June 23.

(Ed’s note: We mistakenly excluded Yeri in the list of Red Velvet members. This is a bad mistake and we apologize for this oversight.)

Fans had earlier been buzzing over a possible bilingual or English version of the hit song. The “Bad Boy” music video has over 112 million views on YouTube alone.

An official copy of the English version has yet to be uploaded on the group’s official accounts, but fans were quick to post videos of their performance.

Red Velvet, formed by SM Entertainment, debuted in 2014. While they’re wildly popular in South Korea and other Asian countries, they’ve yet to truly penetrate the American market – historically, the one market K-pop has found hard to excel in despite its popularity worldwide.

Another K-pop act, BTS, made history recently as the first Korean act to perform live during the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and the first Korean album to top the Billboard 200 chart. – Rappler.com
