MANILA, Philippines – Korean actor Jung Hae-in is meeting his Filipino fans on Saturday evening, June 30, at the KIA Theatre in Quezon City.
Hae-in, who arrived in Manila on Friday, June 29, did a quick round of interviews with local media to answer questions about his upcoming meet and greet. The interviews were arranged by local organizer CDM Entertainment.
“I heard that Filipinos laugh a lot and are cheerful,” Hae-in said in Korean. “And I could feel that at the airport.”
Korean drama (K-drama) fans in the Philippines probably remember him as the scene-stealing policeman Han Woo-tak in While You Were Sleeping.
More recently, he starred as the male lead in Something in the Rain (or Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food), alongside Korean actress Sohn Ye-jin.
Hae-in told Rappler that preparations for his role in While You Were Sleeping involved both the mind and the body.
“At first, when I was acting as [Han Woo-tak], I tried to be honest with his behavior and movement because he was a policeman and was very elite,” he said in Korean.
And because Hae-in played a cop in the drama, one scene in While You Were Sleeping had him showing his upper body (and his abs!) in a comedic scene with male lead Lee Jong-seok, who played as the prosecutor Jung Jae-chan. (For the curious, you can watch that scene here.)
Hae-in told Rappler: “I had to show exposure for the scene, so I should control food and diet, and it was hard for me.”
The discipline seemed worth it, since Hae-in later played as an embattled captain in Prison Playbook, where he showed more of his toned upper body while in prison.
Hae-in is meeting his Filipino fans in just less than a year since he appeared in While You Were Sleeping. According to the actor, what he likes the most about his fans is that they enjoy the difference of the characters he play onscreen to his character in real life.
“I have a fan meeting tomorrow. It’s so exciting and nerve-wracking. I hope that we’ll meet soon,” Hae-in told his fans.
