LOOK: HBO releases 2 stills from the last ever episode of ‘Game of Thrones’
[WARNING: MILD SPOILERS] In terms of a first look, it's not much – but we'll take what we can get (in fire and blood)

MANILA, Philippines – After 8 years, and more recently, 5 polarizing episodes in the final season, the last ever episode of Game of Thrones is finally (almost) upon us.

The events of the sweeping fantasy saga finally came to a head in the show’s penultimate episode “The Bells,” which aired on May 13, and what happened then has left quite of a lot of the show’s loyal fans bewildered, for better or for worse.

A mild spoiler if you haven’t seen it: the episode gave us a casualty count typical of Thrones, but many people were not satisfied with the way certain characters went. (READ: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8, Episode 5 explained: Raining fire and blood)

Whether or not fans were satisfied though, the series is ending soon, with one last (80 minute) episode to go.

In two stills, HBO gave us a glimpse of what’s to come (though can we even call it a glimpse if they only released two stills? What’s smaller than a glimpse? A peep? A blink?), and the characters they chose to zero in on may clue us in to how the show is going to end.

In one still (above), we can see Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons, looking out on to a burning King’s Landing as her unsullied army is lined up before her. It should be noted that we’ve already seen this frame in the finale trailer – so this doesn’t really reveal anything new.

If we could see Danerys’ face in this shot, we’d probably see the subtle Mad Queen snarl and dead eyes that Emilia Clarke has mastered to bring her character’s ultimately heartbreaking story arc to the screen (we’re not sure how we feel about Daenerys anymore, but Emilia, we love you, you’re doing amazing sweetie).

In another still, we can see Tyrion Lannister standing amidst a pile of rubble. He’s wearing his Queenshand pin still – but the look in his eyes seems to say that THIS IS NOT WHAT HE SIGNED UP FOR when he agreed to be Daenerys’ top advisor. Will everyone’s favorite alcoholic dwarf finally turn? Will Daenerys make good on her words to him that “the next time you fail me will be the last time you fail me?

And whilst we’re asking all our burning (hehe) questions: Will Jon Snow finally accept that he is King in the North? What is Night Kingslayer Arya up to? What of Sansa? Is Bran still warging? What does that white horse mean, and how did it stay so fresh in the Battle of King’s Landing?

We’ll find out next week, when the Game of Thrones finale premieres on HBO Philippines on May 20, 9 am. – Rappler.com
