'Tapos na 'kong manahimik sa pagbayad para sa mga kasalanan at pagkukulang nung mga ibang LP nung nabigyan sila ng pagkakataon ng mga botante,' says Kris as she defends her decision to vote for only 4 Otso Diretso candidates

MANILA, Philippines — Kris Aquino defended what she called her “personal” decision not to vote for all Otso Diretso candidates in the 2019 senatorial elections, after a netizen asked how she could support Duterte administration “lapdogs” who condoned the government’s questionable policies.

Kris made the statement in response to a netizen who had called her out for not voting for all the candidates of Otso Diretso whose campaign were managed by the Liberal Party (LP), where her brother, former president Noynoy Aquino, is chairman emeritus.

The netizen was triggered by Kris’ post that in the Senate race, she voted for 4 Otso Diretso candidates, two pro-administration bets, and two independent candidates. She did not name them.

“Otso Diretso is LP. We’ve done so much work defending LP, you and your family from the bashers. The least you can do is set aside your personal issues and think of the implications of not having a strong and solid opposition in this circus government. People are dying and you vote for the admin lapdogs. Wow,” said netizen usrnameisinvalid.

None of the Otso Diretso bets got into the  Magic 12 of the Senate race.  One of the failed candidates was Kris’ first cousin, reelectionist Senator Bam Aquino, whom she had supported during the campaign.

Responding to the netizen, Kris noted that the LP was not synonymous to the Aquino family.

“So yes, it is personal dahil tapos na ‘kong manahimik sa pagbayad para sa mga kasalanan at pagkukulang  nung mga ibang LP nung nabigyan sila ng pagkakataon ng mga botante. I am not my siblings, I won’t quietly take the punches because the truth is, we took the hits for the shortcomings of others,” she said.

(So yes. it is personal because I am done keeping quiet to pay for the sins and shortcomings of other LP members who had been given a chance by the voters. I am not my siblings, I won’t quietly take the punches because the truth is, we took the hits of the shortcomings of others.)

Manuel Quezon III, who had served as undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office under the Aquino administration, was among those who called Kris out on Twitter following her social media post.
