MANILA, Philippines – At the meeting between Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and representatives from ABS-CBN variety show “ASAP 18” on March 5 at 1pm, the government agency required the show to execute new protocols meant to uphold gender sensitivity.

The meeting was part of MTRCB’s “gender sensitivity” investigation over the provocative outfit worn by Anne Curtis in the show’s February 24 airing. The “national sweetheart” sang Rihanna’s song “Diamonds” wearing a black skirt paired with a bustier top. The skirt had an ultra-high slit that left many wondering if she had been wearing underwear.

Firstly, MTRCB tweeted that it has commanded “ASAP” to “undergo Gender-Sensitivity Training” on March 15. The training will be conducted by MTRCB and the Commission on Women.

Secondly, “ASAP’s” network ABS-CBN must “submit procedure of wardrobe decorum” to MTRCB by March 11. This will include new protocol for stylists hired for the shows.

Lastly, MTRCB tweeted that it will “require gender-sensitivity point persons from networks.”

MTRCB wrapped up its tweets during the meeting by saying that the agency “welcomes the cooperation of ABS-CBN management at today’s gender-sensitivity inquiry on 24 February ASAP episode.”

In a statement released March 5, ABS-CBN head of Corporate Communications Bong Osorio said the network “will continue to cooperate with the MTRCB and ensure that its programs will be in accordance with the gender sensitivity guidelines of the board.”

“ABS-CBN thanks the board for hearing its side of the issue as it gives its assurance to self-regulate,” Osorio said.

ABS-CBN’s TV Production Entertainment head Laurenti Dyogi in an article on ABS-CBNNews.com said, “Anne really is an empowered woman. I know she didn’t do it para mapahiya ang ibang tao (to embarrass other people). It’s her way of expressing herself. We recognize that as a network. If it offended some people, on behalf of Anne and the network, we apologize.”

Anne has promised not to wear sexy outfits on television again. – Rappler.com
