15 years after debut, Korean actor Lee Seung-gi is ready for more
The 'Vagabond' actor talks about his dream roles, his most memorable role so far, and what he looks for when choosing acting projects

MANILA, Philippines – He’s been a chaebol, an aspiring action star, a crown prince, a gumiho, a detective, and even the Monkey King. After 15 years in the industry, it seems like Korean actor Lee Seung-gi has already done it all.

But from the looks of it, Seung-gi is just getting started.

The Vagabond actor is here for his first fan meeting in the Philippines. This is also his first trip to the country, and during an interview with select reporters on Saturday, October 12, Seung-gi talked about what other roles he’d like to play in the future.

Asked about his dream role, Seung-gi said: “I really haven’t thought that far yet but I’d really love to try a more specialized role, a specialized profession – lawyers, judges, even doctors. I sort of want to play a role that revolves around those professions.”

During the interview held hours before his Manila fan meet, Seung-gi talked to the reporters candidly and answered their questions through a translator.

“If the opportunity does present itself, if it ever does, I would really like to play a historical role,” he added.

The actor, who has amassed an impressive body of work since his debut in 2004, shared how he chooses his acting projects.

“There are not a lot of criteria, but I think my main one would be who the directors are, who the scriptwriters are, and how they would plan the storyline out and how I could fulfill their vision,” the actor said in Korean.

Seung-gi said his most memorable role to date is the one he’s playing now in the currently airing Netflix drama, Vagabond. In the drama, Seung-gi’s character is a stunt double who embarks on a mission to uncover the truth behind his nephew’s death.

“It’s the first serious role that I’ve played and it’s a lot deeper than the roles that I’ve previously played, so I think this would be one of the unforgettable roles,” the actor explained.

Seung-gi’s Manila fan meeting is happening on Saturday, October 12, at the New Frontier Theatre. The fan meet is presented by HOOK Entertainment and Applewood, and promoted by ABS-CBN Events and CDM Entertainment. – Rappler.com
