Charles Dickens' Christmas classic takes a darker turn in the upcoming TV adaptation by 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight

MANILA, Philippines – FX and BBC have added a darker, more gothic spin on the Christmas classic A Christmas Carol featuring eerierer versions of the Ghost of Christmas Past (Andy Serkis) and Ebeneezer Scrooge (Guy Pearce), among other iconic characters in the upcoming 3-part TV special.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight adapted Charles Dickens’ work into a dimmer, more realistic approach to Victorian England and the stories and spirits of Christmas. The show is produced by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator) and Tom Hardy.

“This production of A Christmas Carol will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story,” Knight said in a statement, according to a Variety report.

Other members of the cast include Stephen Graham (The Irishman) as Jacob Marley, Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) as Lottie, and Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) as Bob Cratchit. – Rappler.com
