MANILA, Philippines – Heart Evangelista declared in an interview with ABS-CBN News that her break-up with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero “is not going to happen.”

In the March 23 interview, the 28-year-old actress admitted that her parents’ appeal for her to end her relationship with the senator pains her.

“Chiz and I are very happy and I hope that, maybe not now but eventually, they can also be happy for me. They are my parents and I love them very, very much. Masakit talaga ang mga nangyayari (the things that are happening now are very painful),” she said.

The star vented out her frustration over the entire issue, saying she wishes for a resolution soon.

“I really pray that everything will just settle and everybody is… we’re all hurt now. This isn’t really doing any good to anybody. I really pray and I pray very hard na sana  (that hopefully) this all just finishes,” she said.

Chiz, Heart: Against all odds?

The star also confessed that she is confused with what to do next.

“I think I’ll just have to figure myself out now because nahihirapan na talaga ako sa sitwasyon (I’m really having a hard time with the situation). Hindi ko na talaga alam ang gagawin ko (I really don’t know what to do). I just want to be happy. If it’s the right kind of happiness, I wish everybody can be happy for me,” she said.

But Heart is thankful that Chiz has been supportive.

“I appreciate that he’s there kasi siyempre (because of course) with everything that’s been said about him, he is still very calm and cool and doesn’t pressure me more to do anything or to say anything.

“I’m very lucky to have someone like him by my side,” said the actress.

Ailing dad

Heart also confessed that she is worried about the health of her father, Rey Ongpauco. According to Journal.com.ph, the 70-year-old Ongpauco patriarch has been suffering chest pains which his wife attributes to the family feud allegedly catalysed by the senator.

Heart said, “I really hope that my dad is okay. Nobody wants anything to happen to their parents. That’s why I think it’s better to pray na lang (instead) at this point kasi magulo pa ang lahat (because everything is still messy).”

On March 19, Heart’s parents, Rey and Cecile Ongpauco, declared at a press conference that they were against their daughter’s relationship with the re-electionist.

They called him “arrogant,” “an alcoholic,” and an “opportunist” saying Escudero “seduced” their daughter with promises he could not keep. They also describe him as having a “Jekyll-and-Hyde”  personality that undermines his chances of getting re-elected this May.

Chiz chides Heart’s parents: ‘It’s just not right’

Escudero said he may just take Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s advice to make an extra effort to get on the good side of Heart’s parents.

He also said that, like all controversies, this too shall be resolved.

Wala naman may gusto nito (Nobody wants this). This too shall come to pass. Sino ba namang may gusto nito? Nagsalita na ako minsan, tama na iyon (Who would want this? I spoke out already, that should be enough),” said the senator.

He also expressed his hope that Holy Week would be a time for all parties involved to reflect and find a path towards reconcililation. – With reports by Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
