Glee’s Cory Monteith enters rehab

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Cory Monteith who plays Finn Hudson on “Glee” has decided to enter rehab according to US Weekly. The actual date of his admission has not been revealed. 

According to his representative in a statement released April 1, the 30-year-old actor “has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction.”

“He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

The representative did not specify what “substance” Monteith is addicted to.

Lea Michele, Monteith’s “Glee” co-star and real-life girlfriend, publicly expressed her support for Monteith.

The 26-year-old actress told People, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Fox TV, which produces “Glee,” added their well wishes in a statement: “Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment. Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”

This is not Monteith’s first time in rehab. In 2011, he told Parade that he had gone to rehab at 19 after a family intervention. By that time, he had dropped out of high school and had been drinking and smoking weed for years.

Monteith admitted that he had been using “anything and everything, as much as possible. I had a serious problem.” 

In 2011, the actor finally received a high school diploma from an alternative high school. At the time, he had been vocal about his problems. He told Parade, “I don’t want kids to think it’s OK to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors too.” – With reports from Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
