FIRST LOOK: Mindy Kaling’s new coming-of-age-comedy ‘Never Have I Ever’

MANILA, Philippines – A new comedy created by Mindy Kaling is set to hit the small screen – and this time, it’s a coming-of-age romp about the life of a first-generation Indian-American teenage girl.

Never Have I Ever follows Devi Vishwakumar, an overachieving high school sophomore whose short temper gets her into sticky situations.

In the teaser shared by Netflix on March 19, Devi is shown praying to the Hindu pantheon on the first day of school, asking for things that aren’t out of the ordinary for any teenage girl to want: an invite to a party with alcohol and hard drugs (not that she would do them), for her arm hair to thin out, a boyfriend, who doesn’t have to be smart, just really hot.

In the first images from the show, we get even more of a glimpse of Devi’s life – from her friends, to her famiy, to her potential hot boyfriend (?).

Mindy, known for her work on the hit series The Office and her eponymous comedy The Mindy Project, is the show’s executive producer, alongside Lang Fisher, who is also its showrunner and writer.

Never Have I Ever is set to premiere on Netflix on April 27. – Rappler.com
