Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries divorced

MANILA, Philippines – After a year-and-a-half long divorce battle to end their 72-day marriage, Kim Kardashian and Broolyn Nets basketball player Kris Humphries can now move on.

Huffington Post reported that after their divorce was made official on April 19 (April 20 in Manila), the two can settle the case any time. The next day, Kardashian and Humphries are expected in court for a settlement conference.

According to TMZ, the biggest obstacle to Kardashian’s desire for a “clean, simple divorce” was Humphries’ fight for an annulment based on alleged fraud.

Publicity marriage?

New York Post reported that in April 2012, the athlete refused to divorce the reality TV star unless she gave him a “public apology” for marrying him “for publicity.”

Thirty-two year-old Kardashian and 28-year-old Humphries were married on Aug 20, 2011 (August 21 in Manila) in an extravagant wedding ceremony watched by more than 10 million on E! channel. Three months later, Kardashian filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“Kris wants Kim to admit to fraud, to admit the whole thing was staged for publicity, to make a public apology to him because he really wanted a marriage,” said an insider then.

Humphries demanded that Kardashian reveal how much she earned during their short marriage, saying she has not been honest about the money she earned from their televised wedding.

Kardashian, who is pregnant with rapper Kanye West’s baby, purportedly offered him US$7 million just for him to “shut up and go away,” an offer Humphries allegedly refused.

Sources close to Kardashian deny that she offered her then-husband money saying all she wanted at that point was to “move on.”

But now, sources told TMZ that Humphries already dropped his demand for annulment and will get no money from his former wife.

TMZ speculated that this is because “Kris is opening his eyes a little bit, and what he sees doesn’t look good…There is little to no evidence backing his claim that he was duped into marrying the reality star for ratings.”

According to TMZ, as the two were signing the documents that would finalize their divorce, the judge told Kardashian, “Congratulations on your dissolution.” –With reports from Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
