MANILA, Philippines – The competition heightened in the Top 3 performance night of American Idol season 12, aired May 8 (May 9 MNL).

One of the night’s most memorable performances was Candice Glover’s rendition of the “West Side story” track “Somewhere,” which earned her a standing ovation from the audience.

The remaining ladies were asked to perform 3 songs chosen by music producer and mentor Jimmy Iovine, the judges, and the show’s producers.

Amber Holcomb was eliminated in the top 4 finals.

Candice Glover owned the show, according to judge Nicki Minaj who said the performance “did not feel like American Idol.” Rather, she said it felt like she was at Candice’s show.

Performances in round two were better received by the judges. Minaj teared up at Candice Glover’s performance, while Mariah Carey was greatly impressed by Angie Miller’s number. Randy was a big fan of Harrison’s performance, saying, “You sang it like a pro. This was one of your best performances to date.”
