Seth Meyers new ‘Late Night’ host in 2014

MANILA, Philippines – From conquering America’s Saturday nights, Seth Meyer is set to get the limelight every week night now that he has been tapped to replace Jimmy Fallon as host of “Late Night” in 2014.

Fallon is all set to replace late night show giant Jay Leno on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in 2014.

Meyers is definitely excited.

“I only have to work for Lorne [Michaels] for 5 more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car,” Meyers said in a statement.

“12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

Lorne Michaels is the executive producer of both “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night.”

NBC president Bob Greenblatt expressed his full confidence in Meyers.

“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation,” he said in a statement.

“His years at SNL‘s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise.”

Michaels couldn’t agree more: “Since 1982, there have been 3 ‘Late Night’ hosts starting with David Letterman, and Seth couldn’t be in better company.”

Meyers’ background indicates he is fully capable of hosting the show. According to Entertainment Online, he has been an SNL cast member for 12 seasons.

In 8 of them, he was the show’s head writer. He helmed the “Weekend Update” segment of the show for 7 seasons. – Rappler.com
