Bruno Mars’ mother dies at 55

MANILA, Philippines – Bernadette Hernandez, mother of Grammy-winning pop singer Bruno Mars, died June 1 (June 2 MNL) in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to a report by the Associated Press.

A publicist for Mars’ label, Atlantic Records, reported that Hernandez died of brain aneurysm. She was 55.

Mars’ mother, a Filipina, was a singer and hula dancer.

Mars is resposible for hits “Just The Way You Are,” “Grenade,” “Marry You,” and “When I Was Your Man.”

In 2011, the half-Filipino singer, born Peter Hernandez, held a two-night concert in Manila and Cebu, accompanied by his mother.
