MANILA, Philippines – The first trailer for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” has been released. It was published on YouTube by Warner Brothers Philippines on June 11.

“The Desolation of Smaug” stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Evangeline Lilly, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott and Aidan Turner.

It is the second film in Peter Jackson’s new trilogy based on “The Hobbit” by JRR Tolkien. In the movie, Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) continues his journey with Gandalf (McKellen) and the 13 dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage) towards reclaiming the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

The first movie in the trilogy, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was released in December 2012. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” will be released on December 12. “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” will follow on July 18, 2014. – With reports from Kai Magsanoc/
