MANILA, Philippines – Alodia Almira Gosiengfiao usually celebrates her birthday with a quiet dinner.
The family affair fit the shy girl she was before donning her first costume and rising to the ranks of royalty in Philippine “cosplay,” a hybrid of the words costume and play.
On March 31, cosplay fandom came out in the thousands to mark her 24th year.
Alodia’s mother had picked her name out of a baby book which said it meant love. Her middle name Almira signified a princess.
Since then Alodia has come of age.
