MANILA, Philippines – Actresses Angel Locsin and Kris Aquino on Monday, November 17, visited Concepcion, Iloilo to help with the relief operations for Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims.
Acording to Instagram posts by Aquino and Locsin, the two travelled with the ABS-CBN network staff of morning talkshow “Kris TV,” with support from the Philippine National Police. They joined in the network’s Sagip Kapamilya Relief Distribution.
Aquino took notice of the situation in the area, saying “It was heartbreaking to see homes, schools, even a gymnasium torn apart and ravaged” by the typhoon.
“Super touching to hear the people say thank you & showed us their genuine appreciation,” she wrote on Instagram.
Locsin, also a volunteer for the Philippine Red Cross, shared the same sentiments.
“The streets are lined with children begging for food,” wrote Locsin on an Instagram video note.
Aside from volunteering, Locsin also donated a vintage Chevrolet Chevelle to be auctioned to raise funds for donation, reported ABS-CBN.
After Yolanda devastated provinces in the Visayas, leaving thousands dead and millions displaced, celebrities have taken their own initiatives to raise donations for the victims.
Mother and daughter Sharon Cuneta and KC Concepcion both donated millions to the cause.
Meanwhile, several celebrities such as Anne Curtis, Erwan Heussaff, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, Bianca Gonzalez, Liz Uy, Rhian Ramos, and Dr Vicky Belo, conducted garage sales and auctions, donating their earnings to relief efforts.
Other entertainers organized benefit events and concerts. – Rappler.com
