MANILA, Philippines  Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber has raised more than half of his intended $1 million donation for Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) relief efforts.

Bieber’s Yolanda relief promo promises donors the chance to win an exclusive studio hangout with the teen singer in Los Angeles, US.

“I’ll fly you and a friend over to join me in LA from wherever you are in the world. It’s gonna be awesome,” teases the campaign.

Using Prizeo, a campaign website that works with celebrities to support different causes, the project has, as of writing, gathered $540,201.

Donations start from $10 with additional prizes such as a video message from Bieber and signed merchandise.

Money gathered will be used to fund shelter, medical care, clean water, safe sanitation, and the building of schools for Yolanda survivors, through the charities Action Against Hunger, UNICEF, and Philam Foundation.

In a video posted on Bieber’s Facebook, the singer expained this campaign is something he has never done before. He urged “the best fans in the world” to give back and make a difference.

“I want you guys to come help me in the studio, give me some ideas. But first, you gotta give back,” he said. “Please, please, help me help them.”

The Canadian Government and organization Action Against Hunger also joined the cause.

The teen star also tweeted about his excitement. He thanked everyone who donated.

Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged provinces in the Visayas on November 8, leaving over 5,000 casualties and billions worth of damage.

A few weeks back, Bieber created and auctioned off a graffiti for the benefit of Yolanda victims. Reports said the graffiti was only the first in his relief efforts. – Rappler.com
