Rex Navarrete opens up on his craft and the steps needed to get to the punchline

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American stand-up comedian Rex Navarrete doesn’t just tell jokes, he creates art.

Apart from his comedian persona on stage, the Filipino-American is an artist, who, despite many years in the industry, still moves to reinvent himself.

After a successful show in 2011, the comedian is back in the Philippines to perform his brand of Pinoy comedy on Saturday, December 21, 8 pm at the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort and Casino.

Navarrete, the brainchild of Pinoy-themed skits “SBC Packers” and “Hella Pinoy,” is joined by fellow Pinoy comedian Mike Unson, in a night he promises to be fun and exciting.

A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Philippine Red Cross and Caritas Manila for the benefit of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivors.

“You can come and have fun and also know that you’re helping out our brothers and sisters in the Visayas,” said Navarrete.

A few days before his upcoming show in the Philippines, Rappler sat down with the comedian to talk about finding humor in the blunders of everyday life and what it takes to get to the punchline.
