Gia Barretto-Reyes to sister Gretchen: ‘Stop the drama’

MANILA, Philippines – The exchange of scathing comments continues for the Barretto clan as another Barretto sibling declared her sentiments regarding their publicized family feud.

The statement aired in GMA 7 talk show Startalk on February 2, Gia Barretto-Reyes came a week after an interview by actress Gretchen Barretto on Buzz ng Bayan, where she detailed the “pain and shame” she feels being in their family.

But in the statement, Gia said it was Gretchen who put the family to shame.

“How else would you put further shame to my family – spread details about our finances, or use the walang kamatayang story of how you were abused, or how much you suffered supporting the family?” she said. “If you cannot respect your parents, do not disrespect mine.”

‘Academy Award’

In the Buzz ng Bayan interview, an emotional Gretchen said she experienced a childhood filled with “shouting, cursing, and belittling.” She claimed the “nastiness” the public has been seeing is no match for her childhood.

Gretchen also revealed that she did not betray their sister Claudine by testifying against her in her legal case against ex-husband Raymart Santiago. She said her actions were brought about by concern for Claudine and her children.

Gia dubbed her sister’s previous “drama” as a performance deserving of an Academy Award.

“With all the drama, openly weeping for a sibling’s recovery when you have done nothing but cause her pain and affliction, puts you in a totally Academy Awards category.”

In the end, she called on Gretchen to “stop the drama” and to “leave them alone.”

The Barretto conflict has been a publicized one. In the past year, the squabble between 3 showbiz siblings Claudine, Gretchen, and Marjorie, became a full blown family affair after their mother Inday released an open letter defending Claudine and calling Gretchen a “liar.”

Claudine’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio recently confirmed that his client and her mother Inday have made plans to press charges against Gretchen.
