Vhong makes condo joke in birthday greeting to Anne

MANILA, Philippines  – At one point or another, comedian Vhong Navarro and actress Anne Curtis found themselves in the midst of controversy, but they are now cracking jokes about their experiences.

In a phone patch on ABS-CBN noontime show Showtime on Monday, February 17, comedian Vhong Navarro, cracked a joke in reference to a controversial mauling incident which left him severely injured a month ago.

In a birthday greeting addressed to his co-host Curtis, who turned 29 on Monday, Navarro joked that while he may not be able to greet Curtis in person, he will be in her condominium when she gets home.

“Huwag ka mag-alala Anne, kung hindi man ako nakapunta diyan para batiin ka nang live, mamaya pag-uwi mo sa condo mo nando’n na ako,” he joked. (Don’t worry, Anne. I may not be there to greet you live, when you get home to your condo later, I will be there.)

A roar of laughter from Showtime hosts and the audience followed the remark.

Last January 22, Navarro sustained severe injuries after he was allegedly threatened and beat up by a group of men, with the goal of extorting money from him. The incident happened in the condominium where model Deniece Cornejo was staying. Cornejo said Navarro that attempted to rape her, and that Navarro sustained his injuries when her friends Cedric Lee and company arrived to defended her.

The case is currently in the hands of the National Bureau of investigation, which has filed cases against Cornejo, Lee, and company.

Kidding aside, Curtis said she understands why Navarro could not be with them to celebrate and that they cannot wait until Navarro returns to the show. She said it was the first time they heard the comedian’s voice on the show after the incident.

Time to move on

In an interview with Pep.ph on Monday, Curtis said she found the greeting “super funny” and that Navarro called her after to ask if his joke did well. She said that Navarro’s joke is a sign that it’s time to move on from the incident.

“You know we just have to realize that time to move on and if someone can kid or make fun of it na, ‘yun na talaga.”

Curtis said she had even made light of an issue she was involved in a few months ago.

Curtis said she invited guests to her birthday party using a line similar to what she allegedly said in a slapping incident in November.

“I wanna see you, you, and you in the party,” she said, in reference to the infamous line “I can buy you, your friends, and this club.”

“Even yung invite ko it’s funny, alam mo yun, so parang you just gotta make fun of it.”

In December last year, news broke about Curtis reportedly slapping 3 people in November, while hosting a party at an upscale club in The Fort. The actress also reportedly said the infamous line to model and TV host Phoemela Baranda, who later denied it.

Curtis has since said that she has apologized to the parties involved and that they have settled the issue. – Rappler.com
