'Suits' star Gabriel Macht in PH for Yolanda relief
MANILA, Philippines – Yes, you read that right. Harvey Specter is in the Philippines.
American actor Gabriel Macht, known to television fans as slick lawyer Harvey Specter from the hit series Suits, is in the Philippines to visit survivors of super typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan).
Macht is here to help out with Globe Telecom’s Project Wonderful, a nation-building initiative set up in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in order to help rehabilitate Ormoc, Leyte after it was ravaged by supertyphoon Yolanda in November 2013.
Earlier, Macht tweeted a photo of him on his way to Ormoc.
It aims to propel sustainable development in the area to not only help the victims survive, but thrive. “We are committed to contribute to nation-building by providing relevant entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities among typhoon Yolanda survivors in Ormoc City so they can rise again and move forward,” said Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu. “We hope that through this project, we will be able to teach them to manage sustainable micro-enterprises that will help them move from survival to self-efficiency.”
“Project Wonderful is thankful to Mr. Gabriel Macht for coming in to support us,” Cu said of the actor.
Globe hopes Gabriel Macht’s participation in Project Wonderful will bring attention, and much-needed support, to their humanitarian endeavor. “Witnessing the devastation of typhoon Haiyan, I felt compelled to raise awareness and financial aid to help thousands of people still struggling to get back on their feet.” Macht said about his willingness to help the cause, “There is so much work still to do. I'm excited to be a part of rebuilding and I'm hoping that so many more will join the effort.”
Macht is most famous for his role as fast-talking law professional Harvey Specter on Suits, which is currently on its third season. He is also known for his work in Love and Other Drugs alongside Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal and as the titular character in The Spirit. – Rappler.com
