‘At Last’! Charice gets ‘Louder’ at NYC Pinoy Relief concert

MANILA, Philippines – In a moment fans won’t soon forget, Charice Pempengco wowed the crowd at the New York City Pinoy Relief concert on March 11 (March 12 in Manila) with her powerful voice.  

She belted out a  powerful rendition of the classic song “At Last” and also switched up the mood and performed her upbeat pop single “Louder.” 

“I’m just gonna dance right through the pain / I just wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum / Let my heart beat louder,” goes the hit song.

The singer rose to the spotlight after talk show host Ellen DeGeneres discovered a video of her singing in a competition on YouTube and aired it on her show. Charice also broke into the international scene with her hit single “Pyramid” featuring rapper Iyaz, which debuted on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and she also had a stint on Glee as Sunshine Corazon, a Filipino exchange student who challenged the status of glee club star Rachel Berry. She performs regularly in the Philippines and abroad. 

Charice performed as part of a star-studded lineup that included Grammy and Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson singing a Whitney Houston medley, half-Pinoy Jessica Sanchez performing “Let it Go” from Disney’s Frozen, accompanied by the song’s Oscar-winning composer, Fil-Am Bobby Lopez (wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez was also in attendance).

These performances are doubly powerful this time around because of the cause behind the concert. Filipino and international acts are banding together to honor victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). 

Artists like Pentatonix, Plain White T’s, A Great Big World, DJ Poet Name Life, Reo Brothers, as well as Dr. Oz and Dante Basco, are also involved with the concert.  

According to its website, Pinoy Relief aims “to provide relief to victims of natural disasters in the Philippines – with the current focus being victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).” Proceeds will go to typhoon victims and the ongoing efforts to rebuild lives from the typhoon-hit areas. – Rappler.com
