Roses, love notes: Bianca Gonzalez shares proposal story

MANILA, Philippines – “Surreal” and “beyond my wildest dreams” was how model and TV host Bianca Gonzalez described boyfriend basketball player JC Intal’s airport proposal.

In a video call with Cinema News, aired on Buzz ng Bayan, Gonzalez narrated the events that led to the proposal.

The build-up started with roses handed to Gonzalez by airport staff. According to the TV host, two guards greeted her with one rose each upon entering the airport. Another two roses were given to Gonzalez in the x-ray area, followed by more roses from ladies at the reception. Moving on to the check-in counter until Immigration, the flowers kept coming.

Gonzalez said she thought the flowers were either part of a prank or her boyfriend’s sweet send-off plan. Gonzalez was reportedly on her way to London for a short course on journalism and design.

Soon after, a woman asked Gonzalez to “verify” a piece of baggage. She handed Gonzalez a tarp with the words “Bianca, please say yes” sprawled on. 

“When I turned around, my friends were there. JC and his parents were there. Wala na, sobra ‘yung luha ko na talaga. (My tears were overflowing.)”

Down on one knee, Intal presented Gonzalez with a 2-karat diamond ring.

Surprises followed Gonzalez even after take off. Throughout her long haul flight, she received 3 love notes from Intal, each given at different times and by different people. Gonzalez posted photos of all 3 notes on Instagram, saying, “My fiancè is the sweetest.”

The first note, served in a wine glass, was given by a flight attendant during breakfast. “Thank you for saying yes my love,” it read. During lunch, came a second note declaring how Intal was at that moment, “the happiest in the world.”

The 3rd was personally handed to Gonzalez by the pilot. According to the photo caption, the note was placed in Intal’s passport holder, which he refused to let Gonzalez borrow for her trip.

“Let’s plan your dream wedding when you get back, sweetheart. I love you.”

Unexpected

Speaking to Cinema News, Gonzalez said she did not expect it, given that they had a “big fight” a week before the proposal.

It turns out, Intal had first planned to propose in December of the previous year and on Gonzalez’s birthday last March 11. Both plans were put on hold because of Bianca’s hectic schedule.

“Tinimingan ko sa airport kasi we love to travel,” he told Buzz ng Bayan. (I chose the airport because we love to travel.) “I think perfect yung spot sa airport.”

“My hands were shaking,” said Intal, sharing how nervous he was during the proposal. He added, however, that seeing her expression, and hearing her say yes was “all worth it.”

“Her expression, reaction, she was crying, she was in tears… i’m glad na she said yes,” he shared, noting that his soon-to-be-bride could not stop talking.

According to the Buzz ng Bayan report, the couple’s story started when both were students of the Ateneo de Manila University. Although the two never formally met, Intal had been attracted to Gonzalez in their college days.

Through the help of common friends, Intal asked for Gonzalez’s number. After a 5-month courtship, they officially became a couple some 3 years ago while on vacation in Boracay.
