MANILA, Philippines – The final American Idol performance show is over. It’s decision time: Jessica Sanchez or Phillip Phillips?
Round one of the last showdown went to Sanchez for her performance of a popular ballad that was right in her comfort zone, but Phillips snatched round 3 when he got a standing ovation from the judges. Round 2 was a draw, with one judge favoring Sanchez, one Phillips, and one saying it was a tie.
The two finalists tackled 3 songs each: Idol producer Simon Fuller’s picks, the contestants’ favorites in the whole season, and what they think would be their first singles after the competition.
In round 2, she sang Celine Dion’s The Prayer and Phillips gave his rendition of Billy Joel’s Moving Out. Round 2 went to Phillips, according to celebrity judge Jennifer Lopez, but for Steven Tyler, it was a win for Sanchez. Jackson said it was a tie.
Phillips obviously bagged round 3 when the judges stood up on their feet after his performance of Home.
Jackson said he did not love the song. “But what I did love is you made something more out of the song.”
Lopez, on the oher hand, said she wouldn’t have picked a pop ballad for her first single and advised Sanchez to “know all your options as an artist.”
Basing from the judges’ nods, it was a tie between the top 2 contenders of the megahit Fox talent show. But there can only be one American Idol, who will it be?
