Stephany Dianne Stefanowitz is Miss Earth Philippines 2012

MANILA, Philippines – Just like in the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant wherein some candidates have already joined in previous competitions, most of the winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2012 have already tried their luck in past beauty pageants.

Taking home the crown as Miss Philippines Earth 2012 is the Filipina-German representative of Quezon City. Stephany Dianne Stefanowitz, who was a candidate for the same pageant two years ago, will represent the country in this year’s Miss Earth competition.

Stefanowitz, 22, bagged the title crown and bested 46 other candidates at coronation night of Miss Philippines Earth on Sunday, May 27, at the Center Stage of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

The new Miss Philippines Earth titleholder is a freelance model, designer, host, and singer. She graduated at De La Salle College of St. Benilde where she took up Fashion Design and Merchandising.

Stefanowitz was crowned by Athena Mae Imperial, Miss Philippines Earth 2011 winner. Imperial won Miss Earth-Water, or second runner-up, in the Miss Earth 2011 competition held in Quezon City.

Completing the list of winners in this year’s Miss Philippines Earth competition are:

  • Samantha Purvor, Miss Philippines Water
  • Glennifer Perido, Miss Philippines Air
  • Thoreen Halvorsen, Miss Philippines Fire
  • Mary Candice Ramos, Miss Philippines Eco Tourism

Stefanowitz also won Best in Evening Gown in the preliminary competitions. Out of the total 16 special awards in the preliminaries, Purvor bagged 5 awards while Perido got 3 awards.

Previous candidate

Stefanowitz, landed in the Top 10 in the Miss Philippines Earth 2010 tilt. Back then, she represented Butuan City, where her mom came from. Her dad is from Hamburg, Germany.

Purvor and Perido, on the other hand, were candidates of last year’s Binibining Pilipinas. Purvor won the Miss Friendship award, and Perido was unplaced. Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup won in the said competition.

Purvor also joined the Miss World Philippines competition last year and landed in the top 12. The competition then was won by Gwendolyn Ruias, who represented the country in the Miss World 2011 competition and won first runner-up. Ruias was a semifinalist in the Binibining Pilipinas 2010 before joining Miss World Philippines.

Three other unplaced candidates have also participated in other competitions in the previous years.

Philippine record

Stefanowitz will be competing in the Miss Earth 2012 competition on October 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Philippines has successfully placed in almost all Miss Earth competitions, which began in 2001. The country has won the Miss Earth crown once in 2008, became a runner-up thrice, and landed as semifinalist 5 times.

The country has hosted the 11-year old competition for 10 times. – Rappler.com
