MANILA, Philippines – “My father is critical but stable,” says Ronnie Quizon, in a live interview just now with Bianca Gonzales of the morning program Umagang Kay Ganda.
Industry friends of his father, the Philippines’ Comedy King Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.), have been visiting his father since last night. Among the visitors were Maricel Soriano (who played Dolphy’s daughter, Shirley Puruntong, in the hit television comedy “John En Marsha”), ABS-CBN’s Charo Santos-Concio, talent manager Dolor Guevarra, actors AiAi delas Alas, Vhong Navarro and Smokey Manaloto.
Media have also been camping outside of the Makati Medical Center since yesterday, when news of Dolphy’s critical condition broke. He was rushed to the hospital last June 9 due to pneumonia and had been doing better since Monday, but complications due to his COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) have weakened his kidneys. According to Ronnie, his father’s kidneys are what the doctors are monitoring.
“We’re not yet in a state of panic, that says something about how my dad is doing,” says Ronnie, adding that since the Quizons are a big family, they have to alternate in watching over his dad. When asked about the mood in Dolphy’s ICU room, Ronnie smiles and says, “Our family is not a quiet family.”
He concludes the latest update with a message to his father’s fans: “Thank you for the prayers, not just (to fans from) the Philippines, but also abroad.”
On Twitter, three Dolphy hashtags are trending (#PrayforDolphy, Dolphy, Eric Quizon):
