
MANILA, Philippines – Although actor Derek Ramsay was one of the celebrities elated about Pope Francis’ visit, he politely declined showbiz personality and presidential sister Kris Aquino’s invite to meet the Pope in Malacañang on Friday, January 16. (READ: When Kris Aquino met Pope Francis)
In an interview with Yahoo Celebrity, he said that he turned down the opportunity to be with his dad. “Kris has five invites to Malacañang. And I told her I appreciate it. But I have to be with my dad. He’s okay. But we still need to find out what’s causing his imbalance.”
Derek’s dad Derek Ramsay, Sr. suffered from a mild stroke and currently has carotid disease, according to reports.
While promoting the movie English Only Please, which earned him a Best Actor award at the Metro Manila Film (MMFF 2014) awards night, Derek tweeted a request for prayers for his dad on December 18, 2014.

The actor recently faced controversy when news surfaced of an undeclared marriage with former model Mary Christine Jolly in 2002, which he later confirmed as true. He also apologized to ex-girlfriend Angelica Panganiban, as she was dragged into the issue. Derek also has a daughter with his estranged ex-wife.
The Malacañang visit was one of the stops on Pope Francis’s itinerary, where he was personally welcomed by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Presidential sister Kris Aquino was in attendance with Aquino and Abunda co-host Boy Abunda. – Rappler.com
