MANILA, Philippines – Family members of YouTube star Jam Sebastian gave viewers an update about his difficult battle with lung cancer.

Jam is one-half of YouTube (and real-life) couple ‘Jamich,’ with longtime girlfriend Paolinne Michelle Liggayu. (READ: Jamich: A love story for keeps)

In the Saturday, January 31 episode of Startalk, Jam’s older sibling Yexel Sebastian said, “Nagsend siya ng text sa amin, sabi niya na i-consider yung mercy killing kasi nahirapan na raw siya.”

(He sent a text to us, and he said to consider mercy killing because he’s already having a hard time.)

His mother, on the other hand, was in tears and was adamant about her decision for Jam to continue fighting against his lung cancer.

Binasa ko ito [the text] at umiyak ako, sabi ko, ‘anak, lahat ng gusto mo, dati hihingiin mo at ibibigay ko pero this time hindi. Hindi ko ‘to ibibigay. Hindi tayo susuko.

(I read the text and I cried. I said, “Jam, all the things you wanted – you would ask and I would give, but this time, I won’t. I won’t give in to this decision. We are not giving up.)

The family already spent 10 days in the hospital with Jam, who could not go through another round of treatment until he gained enough strength.

Nasa ospital po kami ngayon, mag-te-ten days na kami. Uh supposed to be two weeks ago pa yung another chemo niya tapos sabi niya magpalakas daw muna siya bago siya magpa-treat. So until now, mag-te-ten days na kami dito, walang treatment ang ginagawa sa kanya, kahit BP ayaw niya, vital sign, dextrose ayaw niya,” explains mother Maricar Sebastian.

(We are at the hospital right now, and we are on our 10th day here. Jam was supposed to go through another round of chemotherapy, but he [Jam] said that he wants to gain strength before he will be treated again. So until now, it’s been 10 days, and he did not go through treatment. Taking his blood pressure, taking vital signs, and dextrose – he did not want any of it at all.)

Fans of Jamich are still hoping that the wedding with fianceé Paolinne Liggayu will go on, but according to Maricar, it’s going to be very difficult.

Sa ngayon na, parang mahirap mangyari kasi siyempre gusto ng anak ko ikakasal siya nung maayos ‘yung sarili niya. At this time, hindi nga siya makatayo eh.”

(Right now, it’s hard to make [the wedding] happen because of course, my son wants to be married when he’s strong and well. But right now, he cannot even stand up.)

Paolinne, who proposed to Jam in 2014, has also asked the followers and fans to pray for her fiancé’s health and strength.

Ngayon na lang kami nakapag picture ulit. Medyo okay kasi mood niya that time. Baka umuwi na siya bago matapos yung week. Pero di pa rin siya nakakapag chemo kasi kailangan pa magpa lakas kahit konti. Thanks for the love and prayers everyone! God loves you,” she wrote in a January 30 post on Instagram

(We’ve just now been able to take a picture. His mood was a little better that time. He might be able to go home before the week ends. But he hasn’t been able to go through a chemo session because he needs to get a little stronger.)

Jam rose to fame on YouTube with girlfriend Paolinne through their channel ‘Jamich’ – an combination of Jam’s name and Paolinne’s second name Michelle.

The videos feature Jam and Mich in different scenarios, telling different types of love stories. They first posted them just for friends, but soon gained a passionate following.

News of Jam’s lung cancer was reported last March 2014. –
