In hard times, Kris Aquino draws strength from mom Cory
'She never condoned my mistakes, but she never lost faith that I could be better,' Kris says of her late mother

MANILA, Philippines – After keeping quiet for the past few days amid the controversy against her brother President Benigno Aquino III, Kris shared a screengrab of a comment from a follower, and thanked her mother, the late president Corazon Aquino, for teaching her to be strong.

“This was worth sharing… Friends have asked where do I get my strength? I replied: from my Mom, from what I saw in her growing up, from what she instilled in me, she never condoned my mistakes, but she never lost faith that I could be better… And most of all, because she taught me how TO PRAY… Until she died, my Mom never showed me weakness, sa kanya BAWAL ANG DUWAG (to her, cowardice is not an option),” Kris wrote before saying good night to her followers.

Kris was also seen wearing statement shirts on her TV show Aquino and Abunda Tonight. On Monday February 2, she was seen wearing a white shirt with the statement: “How beautiful it is to stay silent when someone expects you to be enraged.”

On Tuesday February 3, she wore a black shirt with the words “I’ve learned more from pain than I could’ve ever learned from pleasure.”

Although Kris has not said anything directly about the t-shirts, many believe that the statements on the tees are related to her brother, President Benigno Aquino III, and the 44 elite cops who were killed in a clash with rebel forces in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25.

President Aquino has been heavily criticized for not attending the arrival honors for the fallen police officers on January 29. The following day January 30, he spent time with the families of the SAF-44, the collective name for the slain Philippine National Police Special Action Force troopers.

On February 5, Kris shared this prayer on Instagram:

The TV host-actress was not spared from the criticism. While she defended her brother, she also unfollowed some celebrities for allegedly criticizing her brother on social media. She later said that she apologized to Ogie Alcasid and wife Regine Velasquez after a misunderstanding on the issue.

Meanwhile, friends Derek Ramsay and John Lapus defended her, saying the Aquinos are good people and that the hurtful social media comments, among them wishing death on the Aquinos, were unnecessary.  Rappler.com
