But director Olivia Lamasan says there will be no mature love scenes for the two of them

MANILA, Philippines – Teen love team Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla spoke to reporters during a press a conference about their grown-up roles in the Pangako Sa ‘Yo remake.

Kathryn also said that her bagging the role of Yna Macaspac in the revival of Pangako Sa ‘Yo was sort of a sign for her and Daniel to finally approach more mature roles. (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla: No feud between us and JaDine)

Mas kailangan na namin mag-let go,. Medyo madami na nagawa nun, so ito na yung perfect time and perfect project to do this and mature.” said Kathryn.

The teleserye, which is a retelling of the love story between helper Yna Macaspac and wealthy rich kid rebel Angelo Buenavista – roles originated by Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales – had the both of them channeling a more mature approach, as compared to their teenybopper roles in Princess and I and Got To Believe.

Director Rory Quintos also pointed out Kathryn’s maturity, and pointed out that she was a very sensual person. Despite this, director Olivia Lamasan said that there will be no mature love scenes for the two of them.

Kathryn also talked about the criticism she’s been getting from Pangako Sa ‘Yo loyalists that she and Daniel will never be as good as Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa in the 2000 version.

But while she explained that she and Daniel were bringing different interpretations, she said they are also open to being compared to Jericho and Kristine, if it means they could learn more about who they’re playing.

Olivia also explained the reason behind choosing Kathniel to take on the well-loved teleserye tandem. Cinast sila based sa kanilang kakayahan nilang bigyan buhay ang Angelo at Yna sa henerasyon ngayon,” she said.

(They were cast based on their capability to breathe life into Angelo and Yna for today’s generation.)

During a press conference for Bridges of Love, Jericho said he was honored to have been part of such a teleserye that is still close to his heart up until now, and that had wonderful things to say about the remake.

“It taught me so many things. And being part of that I can say magnificent show, wonderful show is an honor. And now it’s being remade, parang gusto ko sabihin na (I want to say that) ‘wow what an honor na kayo ang nagstart nung show na may remake nila ngayon. (that you were part of a show that’s being remade today.),” he said.

What viewers can expect from the revival

The cast shared some tidbits from the upcoming series, which will replace Forevermore‘s timeslot at 8:30pm starting May 25.

According to Rory, the story will be much shorter than the original, which ran for a year and 8 months. This time constraint, according to the directors, had them cut out some characters that were present in the first version.

The story will also feature a lengthier and more detailed back story of Claudia Buenavista, to be played by Angelica Panganiban, a character that was not fully explored when Jean Garcia was the one who played it.

Angelica also talked about asking permission from Kathryn if Kathryn wanted the slaps to be authentic during their onscreen fights.

Eh sabi naman niya, ‘Totoo,’ eh di okay,” she said.

(I asked permission from Kathryn. I said, ‘Is it all right – sometimes, there will be slapping scenes, just like in the original. She said, ‘Yes, yes, it’s okay.’ [Angelica asked] ‘Do you want an authentic slap or not? [Kathryn said] ‘The real one,’ so it’s all good.)

Jodi Sta Maria, who played Angelo’s sister Lia Buenavista in the original version, talked about taking on the lead role. “Hindi ako mapaniwala na surreal na naging part ko [sa original], and now I’m moving on to play a different character.” – Rappler.com

Relive the love story of Yna Macaspac and Angelo Buenavista in this modern retelling of the 2000 teleserye hit Pangako Sa ‘Yo, which will air on May 25 on ABS-CBN.
