Let's catch up with Gerphil Flores, El Gamma Penumbra, Junior New System, and Gwyneth Dorado!

MANILA, Philippines – The recently concluded first season of Asia’s Got Talent has introduced viewers once more to world-class Filipino talents. Four out of 9 grand finalists were from the Philippines, with shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra emerging as its first grand champion(READ: FULL RECAP: ‘Asia’s Got Talent’ grand finals)

In a recent press conference for the winners, El Gamma Penumbra, singers Gerphil Flores and Gwyneth Dorado, and dance group Junior New System revealed what fans can expect from them now that the show is over.

El Gamma Penumbra

It’s safe to say that the shadow play performers are not resting on their laurels. The group shared that they would be busy in the coming months performing for corporate events both here and abroad. (READ: ‘Asia’s Got Talent’ winners El Gamma Penumbra back in PH)

Judge David Foster has also promised the Asia’s Got Talent grand champions that he will bring them to the US on October 24 to perform. (READ: PH dance troupe El Gamma Penumbra’s journey on ‘Asia’s Got Talent’)

Member of the group Marvin Marfa shared that a portion of their prize money $100,000 will be given to their chosen charity and to the victims of the recent tragedy in Nepal. They are also looking into building a studio where they could teach those who want to learn the art of shadow dancing.

El Gamma Penumbra might have lost in Pilipinas Got Talent way back, but they say that they see that as a blessing in disguise.

Wala po kaming sama ng loob, kung nanalo po kami doon, baka hindi po kami nanalo dito. Baka di po kami kasali dito.” (We have no ill feelings. If we had won hem, we might no have won now, we might not have been included.)

Gerphil Flores

The 24-year-old classical singer might have come up short of winning the grand prize in the talent competition, but her fans believe she’s on her way to becoming a household name. David Foster did not call her his “Golden Girl” for nothing.

Flores hopes that through her music, the younger generation would be able to appreciate the beauty of classical songs. When asked about her plans for the future, she said that finishing her BM Voice degree at the UP College of Music is her utmost priority. Given the chance, she admitted that she is also open to entering show business.

Kapag naestablish ko na ‘yung career ko as a crossover singer, eventually maybe I can venture into acting.”

Flores says Foster has been very supportive and encouraging, but said that he did not officially sign her. She said that she remains hopeful that they could eventually work together, but added that she did not want to expect too much.

Sana magkatotoo. Bahala na si Lord kung anong plans n’ya.”

(I hope it comes true. It’s up to the Lord, what His plans are.)

Gwyneth Dorado

Much like Gerphil Flores, the youngest finalist also believed that her studies should be a priority. Dorado added that she still could not believe that she made it into the finals.

The 10-year-old singer added that, apart from the recognition, what she enjoyed most was the memorable experiences she had with the other contestants. She shared that they treated each other like family.

Junior New System (JNS)

This group believes in striking while the iron is hot. With the support of their manager, they will try to find the balance between being full-time students while performing. It was also revealed that they have also received scholarships both here and abroad.

David Foster also apparently talked about the possibility of performing as Beyonce’s back-up dancers in her future shows, which has always been a dream for JNS. The group also hopes to share the dance floor with Van Ness Wu, Vhong Navarro, and Jhong Hilario.

With so much talent, optimism, and charisma, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing more of these acts in the future, for sure. – Rappler.com
