Ready for ‘San Andreas’
Plus, watch Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson invite Filipino fans to catch the disaster movie

Musician Zach Lucero is in Beijing to talk to the stars of San Andreas for Rappler. He recounts his experiences here, plus his first impressions on the big budget disaster movie.

The last time I set foot in Beijing was 4 years ago, with my then fiancee and now wife. It was a good experience, walking all day, checking out the sights, and of course, food tripping.

Now, I’m here to cover press events and to interview the stars of San Andreas, and I’m ready for that new experience. Ni Hao, Beijing!

Before the trip Warner Bros Philippines had us watch the mega disaster movie in 4D at the BGC cinemas.  Now 4D is not for all films. But San Andreas? It was perfect in 4D and it made sense, hand in glove. IT is a flick to be experienced, and no amount of storytelling, however detailed will do it justice.

I’m a big fan of horror, thriller, doomsday, and disaster movies. I like ‘em loud with a lot of clangs, bangs and destruction. They are of different genres, yes, but they all toy with and lasso in one of the fundamental human emotions, and that is fear.

San Andreas is special though. Sure, you can get the heart pumping with aliens invading earth wiping out humans. You can grip your armrests till your knuckles turn white with demons, ghosts, zombies, and the like. But what sets San Andreas apart is the fact that if you live on this rock called Earth, you will have to deal with earthquakes. It affects us all whether directly or not. With events and tragedies around the world, most recently in Nepal, situations like the one in this movie feel all the more unsettling and grim.

It’s been a long day.  At the airport this morning, I had bad news that turned to good news that turned to bad news that turned into a mad rush in between flights. I joked with the folks at the gate I was en route to Beijing to interview the Premier, they didn’t buy it, and one of ‘em knew I was going there to interview Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. They laughed, helped us fix our flights, and I’m now in Beijing, on schedule, ready and waiting.

We’ll bring you the interview footage as soon as we have it. In the meantime, enjoy the movie, which opens Thursday, May 28 in Philippine cinemas.

I’ll leave you with The Rock’s invitation to watch the flick. As he says, “Kitakits!” – Rappler.com
